Position: Senior Recruiting Manager, Corporate Business Functions
Role Overview: Oversees end-to-end recruitment cycle and strategy for various business units including Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Marketing and Store Operations

  1. What is your favorite part about working for JCPenney? My favorite part about working for JCPenney is being a part of the inclusive and collaborative work culture. Many companies speak highly of their team-oriented environment, but JCPenney takes it a step further. From the roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to the absolute buy-in from leaders and associates alike, this company is an incredible place to learn and grow.
  1. What can you tell us about being a veteran and your work in giving back to the veteran community? I’ve made it a goal of mine to give back to transitioning veterans and veterans in the workplace here at JCPenney. My wife and I spend our Saturdays helping transitioning veterans revise resumes and prepare for interviews. We titled the program TailoredVets and hope to file for a nonprofit 501c3 soon. Here at JCPenney, I also serve on the HEROES Business Resource Team as a Co-Chair where I help drive veteran, first responder and military spouse engagement strategies and initiatives.
  1. How do you juggle obtaining your bachelor’s degree while supporting your family of six? My spouse is also a recruiter and we both have very non-traditional careers that have led to our combined experience. We landed Corporate Talent Acquisition jobs prior to finishing our degrees. I didn’t start chasing my education until I separated from the Army, and we are on track to finish our bachelor’s degrees together. On top of balancing work and school, we are also a blended family with four daughters ages 18 months to 8 years old. They can be a lot, but we have a strong support system who helps us through it.
  1. What other nonprofit and other community outreach are you involved in? I’m a firm believer that my purpose on earth is to serve others. I started living out that purpose when I began volunteering for homeless shelters as a teenager and then again when I volunteered to serve in the Army as an Infantryman. I continued those volunteer efforts throughout my time in the Army with local elementary schools and hospitals. One of my proudest volunteer achievements was leading a month-long volunteer event with a team of 30 Army volunteers at the 2016 Wounded Warrior Games.
  1. How does your work support our purpose – to celebrate and serve America’s diverse, working families? Talent Acquisition is uniquely positioned to identify top talent through various channels, which allows us to explore a broad applicant pool and present a diverse slate of candidates for each role. Additionally, our team hears the wants and needs of our candidates every day. This enables us to provide insight to our HR partners around what matters most to working families as we look at future initiatives around our Associate Value Proposition strategy.
