This holiday season, JCPenney teamed up with top athletes to bring a little extra cheer to America’s diverse, working families through its annual tradition of gifting shopping sprees to deserving families. In a year where consumers are feeling pressured by the economic environment, JCPenney is on a mission to connect with our communities to give customers more holiday at bigger savings. With some help from Shaquille O’Neal as well as NFL athletes Trent McDuffie, Darnell Washington, Jordan Davis and Nico Collins, families had the opportunity to shop in-store and select gifts for themselves and their families ahead of the Christmas holiday.
To kick off the season of giving, Shaquille O’Neal surprised customers at store #2685 in Arlington, TX with $500 gift cards to clear their carts. Unbeknownst to Shaq, one recipient of a gift card paid it forward, purchasing holiday gifts for families in need through Beautiful Feet in Fort Worth, TX.
On December 3 in Kansas City, MO, at JCPenney store #0184, Trent McDuffie of the Kansas City Chiefs surprised 20 kids from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City with a shopping excursion. With help from McDuffie, each child received a $100 gift card and was able to select gifts for themselves or their family members to make the holidays extra special.
In Pittsburgh, PA, on December 3, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington hosted a private shopping experience at JCPenney store #8142 for two families from Veterans Leadership Program. Each family received $1000 JCPenney gift cards for a holiday shopping spree, and Washington helped each family pick out the perfect gifts.
In Philadelphia, PA on December 9, Jordan Davis from the Philadelphia Eagles treated 20 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia to a shopping spree at JCPenney store #2775 at the Deptford Mall in New Jersey. Each child was given a $100 gift card and Davis helped the kids select gifts for themselves and others during the outing.
To round out the giving season, Houston Texans receiver Nico Collins teamed up with JCPenney to give 20 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston a holiday shopping spree on December 10. Each child was provided with a $100 gift card to shop at JCPenney store #0870 with help from Collins as they filled their carts.
